December Daily 2016: Day 12

December 13, 2016  /  brandi kincaid

Day twelve is simple, a love letter to Santa (or my Santa mug that belonged to my mom when she was little), and a full page photo/patterned paper featuring some of my favorite childhood ornaments.

The letter for this one was a little tougher, so I tucked it under the santa photo with a simple tab for being able to easily pull it in and out.  Once I have tomorrow's page, I'll adhere it to the back of the photo just around three edges, making a little pocket for the letter to live in and move in and out of when needed.

December Daily 2016: Day 10 & 11

December 12, 2016  /  brandi kincaid

I'd thought the story from day ten would be very different, but I ended up spending the day eating way too many lemon drops and listening to Jim Dale read Harry Potter, and well, that kind of sealed the deal for feeling the need to write my love letter to books.

I planned to use the actual photo of the book cover on the left hand side, but it really didn't feel right, so I quickly drew my own sorcerer's stone, and added a Christmas quote from that book.

I had two large photos I wanted to add to the right hand side, so I made the page a flip out, allowing me to tuck my letter underneath.

Now, to stop eating so many lemon drops...

Day eleven is a love letter to winter cleaning, a tradition, or habit, I've had for as long as I can remember.

I wanted to include before and after photos (no matter how unflattering), but didn't want to take up too much space, to I tucked them behind the first photo with index tabs as the pulls.  Easy Peasy!

Before....oof.

After!

I added my letter to the following page, and then a few close up shots of the treasures I unearthed and reflected on while cleaning.

Oh cleaning, it's so love/hate between us.

I'd planned on using the 6x8 page protector with 2x2 square grid, but some misprinting knocked that option out.  Still, I'm glad it pushed me to do something different, because stamping Ali Edwards' Pendelton red orange ink on salmony pink paper...new favorite combination.

December Daily 2016: Day 9

December 10, 2016  /  brandi kincaid

Day Nine was a love letter to an ordinary day, and was exactly what I needed after day eight. I'm not always good about it, but goodness, gratitude to the smallest most "mundane" details is so rewarding.

I was kind of crazy excited to find that pink chipboard about believing in an old Story Kit from Ali Edwards, so on the page it went - the perfect segue into the hand lettered words on the right hand side of the page.  It was good to include one of my own quotes from the day, especially with a little extra fun of printing them on transparency.

I love that I include the tabs to make it easier to turn the pages, then I always grab a random edge.  Oh, well.

I'd loved the simplicity of this big, stark photo of me in the snow under the quote, but I was also tugged to add one of my 2017 One Little Words, so I compromised by stamping the word on a piece of the photo underneath, and including another pop up window so the text is there, but hidden then the overlay is in place.

December Daily 2016: Day 8

December 09, 2016  /  brandi kincaid

Yesterday was heavier, leaving me feeling simultaneously heartbroken, and incredibly proud of my brave, beautiful mother as she lives her way through the horrible beast that is cancer, even now.  I thought a few times that the story of the day would either be a gloomy reflection of how I was feeling, or one of the stories I've got on my list that I'd love to tell this season (holiday memories), and and have been saving for busier/lighter days.

When the sunlight caught my attention and made me smile for the first time since waking, I knew THAT was my story - the simple, but bright moment that the sun came out and shone through our home.

I decided to keep it pretty basic with my love letter typed directly on the photo with a small heart for embellishment.

I had been looking for a way to include a design I made for the Calm & Bright kit with Feed Your Craft this year, but nothing was working (transparency, use as background paper, etc., but when I realized I had no number yet for the day, I decided to use the digital version of the paper to recolor it a bit and then cut it into a large, loose "8" shape.  For the back, I used a photo I'd taken of the sun that didn't quite turn out as expected.  you can't see a lot of it this way, but I can see enough, will remember that moment that I'm referencing in the letter.

To make the number easier to turn, I added one of the sticker tabs from one of Ali's previous kits, with the word "bright" being the perfect addition for the day's story.

December Daily 2016: Day 6 & 7

December 08, 2016  /  brandi kincaid

I am feeling a little quieter today, so I think I will let the photos do most of the talking.  Day six was a little different with a full two page photo spread and hidden photo and journaling window with a love letter to date night, and day seven is a very thankful love letter to a family of friends and the amazing box we received in the mail.

December Daily 2016: Day 5

December 06, 2016  /  brandi kincaid

Some days you just have to laugh.  Yesterday didn't go as planned, and when a headache crept in and stayed all dang day, I ended up with a half completed to-do list and not a story in sight (so I thought) that I wanted to tell to capture the day.

Of course, it's always the moment I lament that I can't do something that I realize I can, and so today's story is simply one of my half-done to-list, a love letter to the items I will get to today instead, and a bit of humor and grace for a day that didn't quite look as I'd imagined.

I used little numbered pull out tabs to hold the lists item's text underneath each list item's photo. The tabs slide out easily and allow me to capture the words without adding even more to an already busy page.

December Daily 2016: Day 4

December 04, 2016  /  brandi kincaid

Day four was fun because it meant it was the first of my December Daily dates with my best friend.  I knew I wanted to use that time to write a letter to her and document this time together across the miles.

I asked her to take and send me a photo of her workspace, and then I took one of mine from the same angle.  I LOVE how this captures how different our spaces are, but how much we enjoy this project.

I thought it would be fun to capture my letter to her in an actual physical letter (I've always loved the books that actually have you open and read the letters in the pages).
